1) The sequence
SET A = B+C
SET D = A+E
could be made arithmetically more efficient by the sequence
SET X = B+C
SET D = X+E
This assumes of course, that A is not to be used elsewhere in its external form.
2) The sequence
SET A = B+C
SET D = B+E
can be improved by the sequence
MOVE B to X
SET A = X+C
SET D = X+E
